Communications intern for sustainable tourism programmes
4-6 months’ unpaid internship at the Foundation for Environmental Education
The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) is looking for an unpaid communication intern that would like to work with our tourism-related environmental programmes, Blue Flag and Green Key, for 4-6 months from mid-August 2026 (exact dates can be flexible). The main areas of work will be communication and PR as well as tasks related to the dissemination of best practices of the two programmes.
Main tasks and responsibilities
1) Communication and PR in Blue Flag and Green Key
Composing of news articles for website and social media
Development of newsletters
Social Media maintenance
Development of PR materials for the programme (for example, online brochures, infographics, animated videos)
2) Managing the dissemination of best practices in Blue Flag and Green Key
Maintaining and extending the best-practice databases of the two programmes
Maintaining, extending and developing material for the Green Key online resource centre
Communicating with the FEE member organisations and other international partners to gather information and materials for the good practice databases of the two programmes
3) Development of material for the Blue Flag and Green Key toolboxes
Creation, collection, and revision of content (templates, documents, best practice examples, support material) for the Criteria Toolbox. The material of the Toolbox can be downloaded by the staff of establishments/sites as an assistance to their work.
4) Development of educational courses for Green Key
Support to the creation and revision of content for educational courses for a) Green Key national auditors, and b) Green Key national administration staff. The educational courses are developed with the use of the Moodle platform of the FEE Academy
5) Administrative tasks
Taking care of ad-hoc administrative tasks such as database maintenance, response to general requests, etc.
Other office-related tasks
Terms and conditions:
Unpaid internship for a duration of a minimum of four months. It is encouraged that the internship is part of the internship requirements for students in the field of communication/marketing or in the hospitality industry, but it can also be part of a post-studies internship.
The intern will have to work 35 hours a week, including a 30 min lunch break.
English is the official language at the FEE Head Office
Additional information for the intern to be working from the FEE Head Office:
The intern is an EU/EEA/Nordic citizen or have a valid work permit in Denmark.
The intern will be working half time from the FEE Head Office and half time from home.
The intern will need a social security number in Denmark (which means that the applicant has to provide proof to the government that he/she has enough financial funds to sustain him/herself (see: https://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-GB/You-want-to-apply/Residence-as-a-Nordic-citizen-or-EU-or-EEA-citizen/EU-Self-support)
Holidays during the internship are confirmed by the intern’s supervisor and should be announced two weeks in advance.
Required skills and experience
Fluent in written and spoken English
The applicant should have a background or work experience in communications and marketing, and preferably also in sustainable tourism, sustainable development, or other sustainability-related fields of work
Experience with Facebook and Instagram, preferably beyond the private level
Experience with design and content-editing programmes e.g., CANVA, Adobe software, and video-editing tools is strongly recommended
Experience with online course platforms (such as Moodle) is preferred
Precise and organised way of working
Proficient user of Microsoft Office package
Capability of working in a team as well as independently
Comfortable working in a multicultural environment

ADMINISTRATIVE INtern for sustainable tourism programmes
4-6 months’ unpaid internship at the Foundation for Environmental Education
The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) is looking for an unpaid administrative intern that would like to work with our tourism-related environmental programmes, Green Key and Blue Flag, for 4-6 months from mid-August 2026 (exact dates can be flexible). The main areas of work will be the administrative support in the process of the Blue Flag and Green Key criteria revision, support to the development of the Green Key application process, as well as other support.
Main tasks and responsibilities
1) Blue Flag criteria revision administration support
Criteria administration update and development of supporting materials for the Blue Flag network: document review, document production, e.g. executive summaries, minutes, survey, criteria drafts, monitoring and reporting mechanisms development support.
Online thematic working parties' administration support: coordination of internal online meetings.
2) Green Key criteria and process revision administration support
Criteria administration update and development of supporting materials for the Green Key Flag network: document review, document production.
Administrative support during the implementation of the revised Green Key criteria and processes
3) Green Key application administration support
Support to the work on evaluating material from incoming applications for Green Key from applicant establishments.
4) Other Administrative tasks

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Blue Flag International Coordinator plays a central role in coordinating and expanding the global reach of the Blue Flag programme. This position requires a dynamic, organised, and environmentally focused individual, ideally with a strong knowledge of sustainability certification systems. The coordinator will ensure operational excellence, help manage partnerships and support National Operators to maintain and grow high-quality certification outcomes for beaches, marinas, and tourism boats.
In this role, you will strengthen and develop the Blue Flag functions at FEE, maintaining a solid foundation for future growth and ensuring smooth operations that empower colleagues to perform at their best. Duties and responsibilities:
Programme coordination
· Support and oversee national Blue Flag programmes to ensure conformity with global criteria and procedures.
· Facilitate the application, evaluation, and award process in collaboration with the International Jury and Technical Committee.
· Maintain accurate records of certified sites and coordinate data collection for global reporting and impact evaluation.
Capacity building and technical support
· Organise and conduct training sessions, workshops, and webinars for national and regional stakeholders.
· Develop and update guidance documents, operational manuals, and educational materials.
· Provide technical assistance to new and existing countries implementing the Blue Flag programme.
Monitoring, evaluation & quality assurance
· Implement and improve internal M&E systems to track performance indicators and compliance.
· When needed, conduct field visits, site audits, and evaluation missions to assess Blue Flag implementation quality.
· Coordinate with external experts and auditors as needed.
Communications and partnerships
· Coordinate with international stakeholders including NGOs, governments, tourism boards, and coastal authorities.
· Contribute to international communications, newsletters, and outreach initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
Degree in Sustainable Tourism, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Marine Studies, International Development, or a related field.
Minimum 4+ years of previous work experience in relevant areas.
Excellent organisational and administrative management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Desirable
Familiarity with the Blue Flag programme and FEE’s broader sustainability framework.
Experience working in multicultural, international contexts.
Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental certifications in sustainable tourism.
Proven experience with certification processes (e.g., Blue Flag, Green Key).
Solid understanding of marine and coastal environment management and sustainable tourism.
